Troubleshooting

Links within My Frames Are All Tweaked

When hyperlinks are clicked, pages show up in the wrong frame or new frames open up within other frames.

You need more than a traditional hyperlink when dealing with links from within frame pages. You have to be careful when entering links into framed pages because there are a number of options you need to consider. Review the "Hyperlinking from Within Frames" section of this chapter for more specific information.

Inline Frames Don't Work for Me

I try to preview my page with an inline frame, and I get the alternate text instead of the inline frame.

Inline frames are not supported by all browsers, and some browsers and security programs will turn off inline frames by default. If your browser is giving the alternate text, something is either telling it not to accept inline frames or it simply isn't capable of doing so.

My Frames Don't Look Right Online

When I view my frames in FrontPage, the proportion is exactly how I want it to be. When I view it on a Web browser, everything is askew.

Although the FrontPage Design view is a close to WYSIWYG as possible, it is not always an accurate representation of what the user is going to see.

Many different issues affect how a user will view frames. These include screen resolution, font resolution, screen size, and if he has moved the borders to better suit his needs.

You should always preview your work on as many browsers as possible to make sure that what you've developed will work on different platforms.

For more information on viewing your site on different browser types, see "Developing the Basic Page: Page Properties, Text, Lists, and Hyperlinks," p. 77.
