High-Availability/Distributed Installation Concepts

It is important to review a few of the concepts relating to a high-availability/<None>distributed install for WebAccess. Distributed installation entails having the WebAccess Application installed on one server and additional WebAccess Agents installed on different servers. It can also mean having multiple WebAccess Applications throughout an organization. In a nutshell, think of this as having options about how to set up a large enterprise WebAccess solution.

Keep in mind that GroupWise gives you the capability to have one entry point via a WebAccess Application that will talk to multiple WebAccess Agents. You can also configure GroupWise domains and post offices to have a preferred WebAccess Agent. This will come into play when you configure which agents will service which users.

Creating a highly available GroupWise WebAccess solution (as explained in this chapter) consists of doing the following:

• Installing additional GroupWise WebAccess Agents

• Defining default WebAccess Agents for domains or post offices

• Defining failover WebAccess Agents that the WebAccess Application can utilize if a preferred WebAccess Agent is not available

The procedure to install additional WebAccess Agents is the same as the one used to install the WebAccess gateway as explained in Chapter 11 in the section "Installing the GroupWise WebAccess Gateway." You need to follow only the part of the section that talks about installing the WebAccess Agent. Although you can install multiple WebAccess Applications, this chapter discusses having only one WebAccess Application and multiple WebAccess Agents. Also, make sure that the encryption key on the newly installed WebAccess Agent matches the encryption key on all the other WebAccess Agents. When you run the GroupWise WebAccess installation, you will generally run just the WebAccess Agent installation and not the WebAccess Application installation.
