Jonathan Robie

Jonathan Robie is the XML Product Architect at DataDirect Technologies, working on products that integrate XML and traditional data sources. He has been on the architectural team for XML databases or repositories at three different companies: Software AG, Texcel Research, and POET Software. Jonathan has been a regular speaker at SGML and XML conferences since 1996, and was a regular speaker at object-oriented developer's conferences from 1991 to 1995.

Jonathan was a co-author of two earlier XML query languages: Quilt, the direct ancestor of XQuery, and XQL, a precursor of XPath. Prior to his work with XML, he was an object database specialist at POET Software, where he implemented transactions in the kernel, designed and presented workshops on object database programming, and provided key-customer support. Before that, he worked as a freelance consultant for five years . He has an M.S. in Computer Science from Michigan State University.

Jonathan is an editor of the working drafts of XQuery 1.0: An XML Query Language [XQ-LANG], XML Query Requirements [XQ-REQ], XML Syntax for XQuery 1.0 (XQueryX ) [XQ-X], and XML Path Language (XPath) 2.0 [XPATH2]. He is also a member of the XML Schema Working Group, an editor of the Schema Formalization document, and a former editor of the W3C Document Object Model for both Level 1 and Level 2. He is also one of the authors of the Schema Adjunct Framework.
