Analyzing Computer Security

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) is a tool available for download from the Internet that allows you to scan your computer for common security misconfigurations and potential security vulnerabilities. It can also check whether your computer is up-to-date with respect to critical security updates. Descriptions of each check are detailed in a security report that includes instructions for fixing any issues that were found. You must have administrator privileges for each computer you want to scan. You can download MBSA from the Microsoft TechNet Web site at Perform a search for MBSA, and then follow the instructions to download and install the product.

Analyze a Computer Security


Click the Start button, point to All Programs, and then click Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer.


Click Scan A Computer.


Select the computer you want to scan.


Select the check boxes with the option you want, and clear the other ones.


Click Start Scan.


View the report.


Click the Close button.
