Troubleshooting Problems
In Chapter 3, “Backing Up the Registry,” I said that mistakes happen. They do. If you didn't heed the advice that I gave in that chapter and back up the registry before making changes, or if something went wrong that just wasn't within your control, there are tools that you can use to troubleshoot and repair the registry.
This chapter describes those tools. It starts with some simple ways to repair an application's settings; it describes tools from third-party companies that you can use to find problems; and it ends with a description of the Windows Advanced Options Menu, Windows Recovery Console, and Automated System Recovery (ASR).
