FTP Server

Software for most of the Cisco Security or other network devices can be installed or upgraded with a TFTP server as discussed in the preceding section. However, some security devices require FTP to install or upgrade the software. One such example is the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). Hence, you need to have one of the supported FTP servers ready and running in your network for an immediate installation or upgrade of the IPS software.
