Syslog Server

Syslog servers can be used for logging syslog messages from various devices. This can be used either for troubleshooting issues or for archival purposes. Most of the Cisco Security devices support syslog to capture debug command output for troubleshooting. Although capturing the debug output using a Telnet or SSH session is a preferred method for many troubleshooters, this may not work for a specific problem type. For instance, if you run into an intermittent connectivity issue through FWSM, you may not be able to capture the debug output at the time the problem occurs with a real-time Telnet or SSH session. However, you may turn on the debug, and configure syslog server with debugging on the FWSM, so that you do not miss the window of opportunity for capturing the debug output at the time of the problem. There are quite a few syslog servers available as both commercial and free downloads. A very popular free downloadable syslog server can be found from the following location: http://www.kiwisyslog.com/
