Section 7.7. Report Snapshots and History

7.7. Report Snapshots and History

A Report history is a collection of snapshots of previously run reports. This section shows you how to create snapshot reports and how to manage report history.

Data source connection credentials must be stored in the report server to enable report history functionality. Follow these steps to store the credentials for the Adventure Works data source (created earlier in this section) to the report server.

  1. Open the Report Manager Home page.

  2. Click the Adventure Works data source link to open the data source management page shown in the following figure.

Figure 7-19. Adventure Works Data Source Properties

  3. Select the Credentials stored securely in the report server radio button in the Connect using section.

  4. Enter the User Name and Password.

  5. Check the Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source check box.

  6. Click the Apply button to update the Connect using properties and return to the Report Manager Home page.

Credentials for the Adventure Works data source are now stored at the report server and you can now create snapshots of reports (such as Employee List) that use this data source. Follow these steps to create a snapshot of the Employee List report.

  1. Open the Report Manager Home page.

  2. Click on the Employee List report to render it.

  3. Click the History tab on the Employee List page.

  4. Click the New Snapshot toolbar button to create the report snapshot as shown in the following figure.

View a snapshot by clicking on its date/time link.

Delete one or more snapshots by clicking the checkbox beside each snapshot and then clicking the Delete button on the toolbar.
