Executive Summary

There are wide variations in multisite operations. The basic variations reflect requirements for material coordination between locations and how locations are grouped into companies. A transfer order supports material coordination between two locations within the same company. Several scenarios illustrated variations in multisite operations. These scenarios included autonomous sites with centralized order entry and the use of multiple locations and transfer orders to handle a remote finished goods warehouse, consigned inventory stocked at a customer site, a separate service parts inventory, and material stocked at subcontractors . The scenarios also included inventory replenishment across a companys distribution network. The case studies provided further illustrations of multisite variations, such as centralized master scheduling and an offshore sales order company.
