Acknowledgments

I would like to dedicate this book to my dear wife, Naree. I would like to thank her for her infinite patience, for putting up with all of those occasions when I was buried in the construction of this book, for all of the hours she tolerated me sitting at the computer writing, for all of her words of encouragement, and most of all, for her love and understanding, without which this book would never have been written.

I would also like to thank my old friend Al Braaten from Microsoft for having the patience to read and reread my manuscripts, providing thoughts, comments, and the occasional correction. My brother, Jim Rittinghouse, who worked many hours providing constructive comments on the book, has made it a better product, and I thank him for that. Dr. Tony (Vern) Dubendorf deserves thanks for all of the effort he put into editing and providing sanity checks on my material. Thomas Beltz of American Systems Corporation deserves a special thanks for his contributions on software best practices. Finally, Dr. Bill Hancock, who was actually the inspiration for my forward progress on this book, deserves many thanks. Having known Bill for more than a few years now, I learned from him that a book can be written at 35,000 feet at night just as easily as at the computer at home (not really, but I would not tell Bill otherwise). Most of all, I would like to thank all of those folks who have worked with me to see so much done in so little time.
