End-User Training

The WLAN has been deployed, but does everyone know how to use it? Achieving the desired results with any technology requires trainers with knowledge and expertise. Too often a project is completed and the end-user is given a quick download, handed documentation, and sent on his or her "confused" way. Set up a training program to teach the end-user how to make the most of this wondrous technology. The training program can be handled in-house or outsourced.

Professional trainers can develop a program that ranges from a simple quick-reference guide to complete multi-lingual training packages. Or perhaps all that's needed is a professional trainer to train the in-house instructor on the ins and outs of wireless connectivity.

Intermec Technologies Corp., one of the wireless industry's "big guns," perhaps best explains the benefits of using an expert training program. According to Intermec, "By using an expert training program, employee productivity, system performance, and reliability are increased. Excellent training programs are developed to fit specific industries and cultures, often garnering better response from the end-user. It also expedites a project's ROI because the user can operate the system properly and more quickly, thus making it possible to gather data faster and make fewer data entry errors.

"Employing an expert trainer can also reduce rollout times. Professionals understand how to best communicate technology at the user's level of understanding. Sometimes IT staff members are too technical to be clearly understood when describing the system and the new processes. Finally, investing in employee training often reduces resistance to the new technology."
