Matching the Appearance of the Two Clips

The two sample video clips for this project, oneperson.avi and manypeople.avi, were filmed at different locations, at different times of day, and under uniquely different lighting conditions. (One was filmed on a sunny day in greenscreen studio-slash-garage at about noon, the other on an overcast day inside a train terminal about 4:00 in the afternoon.) When you are using your own clipsor perhaps a royalty-free clip as the backgroundyou may run into similar color and lighting mismatches, either great or small. Fortunately, these are usually fairly easy to fix with some minimal tweaking of one or both of the clips' Image Control settings.

Adjusting the Image Control Settings as Needed

Click the oneperson.avi clip on the Video 2 track.

In the Properties panel for the clip, click the triangle next to Image Control to view the effect's controls.

Set the following Image Control properties:

  • Brightness:

-1.0

  • Contrast:

95.0

  • Hue:

-1.0°

  • Saturation:

95.0

Did You Know?

All clips are different, at least to some degree. Keep in mind that the settings in Step 3 above are specifically for the two clips used in this project. When you are working on your next greenscreen project, look at how the clips are working together on the screen and make adjustments as necessaryuse your own judgement. Maybe the Hue needs to be +1.0°. Maybe the Saturation needs to be increased, the Contrast decreased. Experiment until you like what you see. For this task, it's a little bit art, and a little bit science.
