Be Careful

Because Windows service applications are usually up and running all of the time while their host machine is active, you need to be especially careful about managing resources such as memory, database connections, disk files, and unmanaged objects. If an application runs 24/7, even a small resource management issue is likely to grow into a nasty problem quite quickly. Similarly, multithreading situations are very common when developing Windows services, and these situations also need to be handled with care. For some detailed information about multithreading and resource management, please see Chapter 14.
