Chapter 21: Procedure-oriented Windows Applications
Overview
The previous chapter concentrated on Windows terms, definitions, and tools in order to prepare you for the procedure-oriented applications developed in this chapter. The most attractive features of Windows applications are the common visual interface, device independence, and concurrent execution. It is now time to put theory to practice and develop applications with these exciting features.
This chapter teaches you how to write Windows applications in C or C++. Chapters 22 and 23 introduce you to 32-bit object-oriented Windows applications. These applications incorporate the Microsoft’s Foundation Class (MFC) library into your code. Even if you plan to do all of your development work in object-oriented C++, this is still an important chapter for you to study. By studying the applications developed in this chapter, you’ll have a much better understanding of how the Microsoft Foundation Class library aids in C++ code development.
