Since the JavaServer Pages and Servlet specifications are somewhat open in regards to how features are actually implemented by a container provider, there are certain items that are specific to Oracle s Java containers for Oracle Application Server 10 g , called Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J). In this section, we will cover the specifics of how the specification is implemented in OC4J, as well as some value-added features to JSP development.
Note | For more information about OC4J, see Overview of Technologies . |
The OC4J 9.0.4 J2EE container provided with Oracle Application Server 10 g is fully JSP 1.2- and Servlet 2.3-compliant. Oracle does support the Servlet 2.0 model but recommends upgrading to the 2.3 model, if possible. OC4J provides all of the features that are in the specifications, as well as value-added features. These features are generally grouped into one of three categories:
Extended Type JavaBeans
Oracle-specific features
Caching features
