| This book is designed to teach you the basics of ColdFusion and databases and to take you through to advanced topics like security, web-based site administration, and shopping carts. The book centers on using this newfound knowledge to perform a "makeover" on an existing, static, HTML-based web site. (For more information on the web site makeover, see the "Static Web Site Case Study" section later in this introduction.) Each chapter is considered a step that will introduce new topics and concepts and will enable you to practice them with standalone examples to help you learn. The end of each step culminates in a practical application of your newfound knowledge by using these new concepts to "make over" the case study web site. Each step's makeover exercise builds on the previous step so that, by the end of the book, we will have taken a static HTML site and redeveloped it into a fully functional, dynamic, data-driven web application.
