Let s Review:

Let ‚ s Review:

  • This chapter completes step 10 in the financial value process: create value themes.

  • Your theme is a high-level generalization of the value you bring to the organization. A value statement gives more specific data about the performance change, financial change, relevance to the urgent and important of today, and what you need next to bring even more value to the organization.

  • Financial value themes (and financial value statements) are based on the principle of drawing a causal relationship between one point on the finance-to-performance spectrum of a financial value chain and another point on the same spectrum. Any two points on the spectrum can be used to draw a causal relationship. The higher or broader selected measure is called the financial measure. The smaller or more detailed measure is called the performance measure.

  • Value themes name the intervention, chose a direction that the financial measure will or has already moved, and then give a performance reason for the movement in the financial measure.

  • Performance reasons echo the same direction and can be a specific performance measure or, if the audience will not understand the terminology of the performance measure, you can use a generic base driver of time, count, or money as a performance reason.

  • Value themes are different from what many WLP professionals currently use because they ensure that the translation from performance to finance is done for your audience and that your audience can see your logic in claiming a type of value.

  • Value themes can be used in a wide range of places, including marketing brochures , presentations, conversations, or as lead-ins to more specific value statements.

  • This chapter gave examples of three value themes based on value chains created for ABC MediCompany.

Financial value themes are important, but if themes were enough to gain a seat at the table, you ‚ d already be there. Your peers at the table need more. In the next chapter, you ‚ ll create financial value statements that give your audience the specific information they are looking for.
