If Editing, Mark Your File When You Mess Up

If you stumble or flub (or perhaps swear when you're trying to have a nonexplicit rated podcast), you could write down the time stamp to edit later if you happen to have a pen and paper ready. Or you could just make a sharp noiserap your knuckles on the desk or clap your hands. This will cause a spike in the levels that will be easily identifiable as a place to edit when it comes time. The only caveat is that you must remove these spikes before you run your compression effect; otherwise, the sharp peaks will throw everything else off. An extended pause can also do the job of marking where you need to edit (which may not work if you have a tendency to pause frequently while recording).
