Selecting Packages to Install on Fedora

team bbl

The software screen lists the packages Fedora intends to install. The list depends on the type of installation you selected earlier. The workstation software list is shown on the top. You have the choice to install the suggested list of software or modify the software list, removing or adding the names of packages to be installed. If you select the option to Customize software packages, shown on the bottom, the screen in Figure 4-15 will display, giving you the opportunity to add or remove packages.

Figure 4-15. Package selection in Fedora Core 2.

The package selection screen shows groups of software that you can check or uncheck for installation. For instance, the GNOME desktop is the default for Fedora. You can see in Figure 4-15 that GNOME is checked and the KDE desktop is not checked. If you're new to Linux, you may want to try out both desktops to see which you like. Check by KDE to install the KDE desktop along with the GNOME desktop.

Some software listed is in categories containing more than one package, such as Editors. Clicking Details displays a screen showing exactly which packages are in the category, allowing you to pick and choose.

The choices made here are not the final word. You can add and remove software at any time after Fedora is installed.
