Although Photoshop cannot be mistaken for a page layout program, it does have some rather sophisticated type-handling features. You can add a single character, word, or line of type. You can add paragraphs of type that automatically adjust to changes in the enclosing rectangle. Introduced in Photoshop CS was type on a path, the capability to have a line of type follow a path created by the Pen tool or a shape tool. Both spell checking and find/replace for text are built in to Photoshop. You also have incredible control over the appearance of text, especially when using OpenType fonts. This chapter looks at the type and text capabilities built in to Photoshop CS2, the tools and palettes you use to take advantage of those capabilities, and issues involving fonts and font embedding.
