What You've Learned

  • The Audio window acts as your song's audio library. All of the audio files you record or import into Logic are listed in this window, along with information about the files' sampling rates, bit depths, channel configurations (stereo/mono), file sizes, and locations.

  • To import audio files directly into the Audio window, choose Audio File > Add Audio File.

  • Logic converts all imported MP3 files to PCM files at the same sampling rate of your song.

  • The Sample Editor is a sample-accurate editor. This contrasts with the Audio window, which only allows edits accurate to within 256 samples.

  • The channel setting, located on the left edges of both the Audio window and Sample Editor, is used to set the audio track channel that auditioned audio plays through.

  • The Search Zero Crossings function causes Logic to automatically place edits to Region boundaries and Anchors on the zero crossing of the nearest ascending wave to your edit.

  • Region Anchors determine how the Region is tied to Logic's time grid.

  • The Sample Editor's Digital Factory is used to convert sampling rates for files imported into Logic.

  • Folders provide a convenient way to group several Audio Regions into one Object that can be edited and arranged just like a normal Audio Region in the Arrange window.

  • The Save as Project function allows you to group all necessary audio files into one folder that is easy to back up or move from computer to computer.
