Chapter 9 -- Implementing Client-Side Solutions

Scripting is code that you write in a Web page. The script runs either on the client computer when a user interacts with a control, or on the Web server before the page is returned to the client. In both cases, you add script to a Web page as ASCII text. This lesson compares client-side and server-side scripting, and explains how to implement client-side scripting. It also introduces VBScript, which is the scripting language that will be used in this chapter.
After this lesson, you will be able to
  • Compare and contrast client-side and server-side scripting.
  • Describe the differences between Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) and Microsoft JavaScript.
  • Explain the purpose of the <SCRIPT> tag.
Estimated lesson time 25 minutes
