Our experience in building complex service delivery systems shows that a lab is essential early in the design cycle. It is impossible to use product information or even experience with the individual operating system, networking, and server components to establish a workable design that meets project or product specifications. It is critical to actually build and refine an initial schematic design with real equipment and software components. The information gained in early prototyping will make all the difference in building and deploying a successful system.
