Core fonts provided with Middle East and East Asian (previously referred to as the "Far East") versions of Windows 95 were among the first OpenType fonts that Microsoft provided. Since then, the number of OpenType fonts that are shipped, the scripts they support, and the OpenType Layout features they implement have been steadily increasing.

Today, OpenType fonts ship with a wide range of Microsoft products, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP releases.
