Old Components Have No Place

For the most part, old Flash MX components should coexist with the new 2004 components without much hassle. However, it is highly recommended that you update your old components to the new format. This is especially true if you are publishing your movie for Flash Player 7. ActionScript 2.0 seems to run into problems from time to time with the old boys.

I used a lot of the older components in my work and often tried to leave them in my new documents that I published for version 7, but I had a lot of problems. I hope things work out better for you, but if they don't, I'd say bite the bullet and spend the time updating them. Hopefully the next version of Flash won't include another major overhaul of components like the last two have. Only time will tell.
