This lesson discusses the most common audio and video-related issues editors may encounter when using Final Cut Pro, and how to resolve them. These issues include

  • Dropped frames (page 724)

  • Out-of-sync audio and video (page 744)

  • Audio distortion and playback problems (page 754)

  • Field tearing and field dominance problems (jagged edges, jerking motion, and so on; page 767)

  • Luminance and color-space problems (page 776)

  • Still image issues (page 788)

You can read this lesson straight through to learn how to solve these problems, or you can use it as a troubleshooting guide when you experience issues.

If you're experiencing a problem and have already eliminated the quick fixes described in Lessons 6, you need to do more methodical troubleshooting. Although the following chapters are not comprehensive, they can speed up your sleuthing of some of the most common issues you may encounter.

To make it easy to find a solution to your problem, consult the tables at the beginning of each section. Look for the symptom that most closely resembles what you're experiencing, then refer to the page listed with the possible solutions for that symptom.
