Exercise 1

In this exercise you will create a job description for a web application developer from a project scenario. You will be given prompts to guide you on the creation of the job description.

Scenario: You are the project manager for Cardigan Adhesives Corporation. You have been assigned as the project manager for the development of the new corporate Internet site. The web site should be easy to navigate for all guests. In addition, the web site will have an application that will query a database to report on inventory, cost of goods available, and online ordering.

Answer the following questions to begin creating the job description for a web developer. If you are uncertain of the answers, use the Internet to research web developers and the types of activity they are required to do.

What is the primary purpose of this role on the team?
What type of software will the team member be using to create the application?
What type of database is being queried?
To whom will the team member report?
What other activities will the team member be responsible for?
What are some personal traits that this person should have?

Based on your answers, create a job description that is appropriate for a web developer on this project. A solution appears at the end of this chapter.

Exercise 2

In this exercise you will create a 12-question interview to assess the skills of a prospective team member using the project scenario provided. Prompts will assist you to create key questions for your interview. On questions that you find relevant, create reactionary questions for the interviewees expected answers.
