In this chapter, we'll cover the basic elements of what a database is and how it's organized. As you'll see, you got a good start toward understanding databases in Chapter 23, "Disk Data Files." In fact, many database principles presented in this chapter are simply an extension of the random access files you read about in Chapter 23.
