6.6. Future DirectionsWith the completion of WSDL 2.0, it is unlikely that the WSDL specification will be further evolved. Of course, errata will be issued, but it is not expected that a version 3.0 is likely. Because WSDL is a base specification, changing it impacts many other specifications. Therefore, unless some unusual new requirement is identified in the future, it is unlikely that WSDL 2. 0 will be further developed. Even the adoption of WSDL 2.0 will take some time because WSDL 1.1 is now firmly entrenched in the developer community. Almost every major software industry player now supports WSDL 1.1 in tooling and runtimes, and it will be a while before WSDL 2.0 replaces that. In fact, it is likely that something similar to HTTP adoption will happen here. WSDL 1.1 will probably never go away completely, just like HTTP 0.9 and 1.0 have never really gone away. |
