Installing and Configuring Software

In order to configure and use SQL Server Data Transformation Services, the OLE DB Provider for DB2 must already be installed and data sources configured. A normal progression for installation and configuration would be the following:

1. Install and configure Host Integration Server 2000.
2. Configure data sources for the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2.
3. Prepare the IBM DB2 database and tables on the AS/400 for access.
4. Install and configure SQL Server 2000.
5. Create the SQL Server Data Transformation (DTS) packages.
6. Schedule the DTS package to be run at specified dates and times or intervals.

The installation of Host Integration Server 2000 and SQL Server 2000 are tasks that we will skim over. Detailed installation information is found in the product documentation. We will focus more on configuration issues since these are more challenging.
