Scenario

This chapter looks in more detail at the design of a scalable navigation services platform for location-based mobile services (LBMS). The goal is to first understand the functional components that handle services access, transport conversion and message extraction, authentication, billing, session management, and the actual computation of the low level core navigation services that support mobile service providers' applications, which guide mobile users in the real world. These functions can be implemented by scalable combinations of Microsoft's operating system and .NET Enterprise Server products. They can be packaged as single servers for space publishing applications, medium-size multi-server systems for corporate internal use, or in large multi-cluster DataCenter installations for commercial delivery of core navigation services to multiple mobile service providers.
