Generating the Final Documents

After your variables are defined, and your data sets are set up, you can test the data sets by choosing Image > Apply Data Set and selecting a data set with the Preview checkbox enabled. When you click Apply, you change the current layer content.

If the test is successful, you can then generate the final documentsone document for each data set.

To generate data-driven documents:

1.

Choose Export > Data Sets as Files (Figure 20.6).

Figure 20.6.

2.

Specify the folder, which data set to export (or all of them), and how you want the files to be named.

3.

Click OK. Photoshop generates the documents in the folder you specified (Figure 20.7).

Notice how the product image, name, price, and Organic label change in each of the final files, corresponding to their data sets.

Positioning images can be tricky if you don't want them to be centered. Try setting up the image variable layer by starting with a blank layer, drawing an object at the exact center of the document (I used a gray dot), and then using the move tool to drag your center marker to the location where you want the image variables to appear. Image variables follow the position offset of the layer that contains them.
