While officially an beta release at the time of this writing, MySQL 4.1 is available for download at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-4.1.html. The installation might be slightly different, in which case be sure to read the accompanying instructions. For example, Windows users will not have a wizard interface for installation, but the installation simply consists of unzipping files into a specified directory.
If you do download and install MySQL 4.1, remember that it is for development use onlyyou should never use beta software in a production environment unless you're very, very well informed and always available to save a system from itself, should it go belly-up for some reason.
