In the process of gathering information for the book, we found material too good to not pass on. When we found that adding the detailed explanations of an idea detracted from the flow of a chapter, yet still thought the information was important, we moved that additional material to the reference section. The reference chapters offer additional breadth and depth of technical details and point to some of the key software that is available to your Linux-on-the-mainframe solution, including applications, middleware, systems management, and performance tools.
Each subsection in the reference chapters can be considered a separate topic that does not necessarily fit in any particular way with the other topics. Unless stated otherwise, the architecture discussed is the 64-bit z/Architecture.
