Over the years, I've made a hobby and a habit (if you combine a hobby and a habit, does that make a Hobbit?) of collecting various Internet-related annoyances and figuring out solutions for them. Word got around, so I'm constantly providing technical support for Internet problems to large swatches of the civilized world (and a substantial section of the uncivilized world, mostly in my hometown of Cambridge, MA). I've gotten email from all over the globe, including from a very sweet 18-year-old boy in Lebanon who, after receiving my help, decided to name his pet rabbit after my daughter's rabbit. (I, of course, was honored, and so there is now at least one rabbit in Lebanon named Polichinelle.) But you can only help so many people via email and the phone. Why not share my fixes with the world? And so this book was born. |
