INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

In many circumstances, the Rational Unified Process can be used in whole or in part "out of the box." Often, however, to do a thorough job and adapt it closely to the needs of your organization, you will have to configure and implement it.

To configure the Rational Unified Process means to adapt the process product to the needs and constraints of the adopting organization by modifying the process framework delivered by Rational Software.

To implement the Rational Unified Process in a software development organization means to change the organization's practice so that it routinely and successfully uses the Rational Unified Process in whole or in part.

The result of configuring the Rational Unified Process is captured in a development case. A development case could constitute an enumeration of the different changes to be made to the complete Rational Unified Process. Alternatively, the development case could be a Web site with online hyperlinks to relevant sections of the Rational Unified Process.
