Chapter 12: SAP s Business Object Repository

Team-Fly

Overview

The BOR (Business Object Repository) is the heart of the SAP system. The business model is both defined and executed through the BOR, and BAPI/Java programming requires an understanding of these fundamentals. If you have not yet read Chapter 6, 'Object-Oriented Programming Concepts,' I urge you to do so, because the BOR is very closely modeled after this concept.

The BOR was introduced in release 3.0 of SAP and at that time was primarily used for SAP Business Workflow. This approach allowed users to build workflows that used these objects and were triggered when events such as the creation of an object occurred. Release 3.1 of SAP extends the use of the BOR to include BAPIs, which makes the BOR the central point for access from external systems, such as Java programs. Now an object can contain variables and events, and have methods assigned to it. This chapter covers the basics of the BOR and explains the various details of the objects it contains, and how they relate to your Java programs.
