The Java programming language is a young computer programming language that is becoming accepted as a stable, platform-independent tool that speeds up and reduces the cost of development and support. Java now ranks third as the preferred programming language, behind Visual Basic and C/C++. Such a standing isn't bad for a programming language that has been around for less than a decade. Java's increase in popularity is due to several factors, including solid product support, a growing need to develop software that will run on a variety of platforms, and the need to find an efficient and secure way to execute client/server applications.
The acceptance of Java does not mean that Java will replace ABAP, C/C++, Visual Basic, and other software programming languages. Instead, many ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) environments use Java as a tool in several unique areas, usually related to Internet applications and other interactions between ERP systems and complementary third-party software.
