AirTran: Reducing the Information Burden

The AirTran flight information system is different from the United and Continental systems because AirTran serves fewer cities than the other two airlines do. This enables the designer to optimize how the system filters data. When a caller doesn't know the flight number, the system asks for the flight itinerary .

SYSTEM:	and the originally scheduled departure time? If you're not sure say "I don't know."
CALLER:	I don't know.
SYSTEM:	All right, but if you had to guess, is it departing in the morning, afternoon, evening, or night?

Since AirTran doesn't offer multiple flights within the same time block, the system can reduce the burden on the user to know the exact time or even the approximate hour . All they need to know is the general time of day.
