Running on a Real Device

Team-Fly

As of this writing, Motorola has released two MIDP-compliant phones, the i85s and the i50sx, with service provided by Nextel. Although these phones have a MIDP implementation, Nextel is still futzing around with their network. Full HTTP connectivity won't be available until the third quarter of 2001.

How do you actually put MIDlets on the phone? Eventually, of course, MIDlet suites can be downloaded over the network, but the infrastructure hasn't been set up yet. For now, MIDlet suites can be downloaded to Motorola's phones from your desktop computer using a serial cable. You'll need a downloader program on your PC, available here: http://developer.nextel.com/. You can buy the phones and the serial cable from Nextel: http://www.nextel.com/.
