56. Balance Sound over Left and Right Channels

The Balance audio effect lets you control the volumes of the left and right channels in the audio track for a particular clip. If your audio clip is in stereo, you will see two audio waveforms for each clipthe left stereo channel (on top) and right stereo channel (on the bottom); a mono clip shows only one waveform.

1.	Open the Effects and Transitions Panel To gain access to the Balance audio effect, you must add that effect to an audio clip. First, open the Effects and Transitions panel by choosing Window, Effects. When the panel opens, click the Audio FX button at the top of the panel to view the audio effects.
2.	Expand the Audio Effects Group Open the Audio Effects group by clicking the arrow to the left of the group's name and locate the Balance effect in the list.
3.	Drag the Balance Effect to an Audio Clip in the Timeline After locating the Balance effect in the Audio Effects group, drag it to the audio clip you want to modify on the Timeline and drop it on the clip.
4.	Open the Balance Properties Open the Properties panel for the targeted audio clip and click the Balance effect. The effect provides options to adjust the audio balance between the left and right channels. 56. Balance Sound over Left and Right Channels
5.	Adjust the Clip's Audio Balance Click the Balance number indicator and type positive or negative values. Positive values increase the proportion of volume for the right channel; negative values increase the proportion of volume for the left channel. Alternatively, drag the indicator to the left to adjust the volume for the left channel; drag to the right to adjust the volume for the right channel. Play back the audio clip to test your results. You can use the Bypass check box to hear the sound before and after. Checking the box ignores the effect, unchecking the box applies the effect.
