One of Avid Xpress Pro's strongest features is how it handles effects. Although you were introduced to effects in previous chapters, this chapter explores an even more advanced editing technique called nesting . Nesting is not a new concept if you've ever worked in Adobe After Effects or in Boris FXs. Nesting, as defined by Avid, is a process that allows you to "step into" an effect on a track in the Timeline, perform a series of operations, and then step out to view the results. What? Don't worry, this chapter will clear up any questions you have about nesting and will show you why it's one of Avid Xpress Pro's strongest features.
To begin with, it's helpful to consider that the word "nest" brings to mind something inside or within something else. When you perform a nest, you're working "inside" an effect. To illustrate this concept, I've included several examples of nesting in this chapter. There are times when nesting will be the only solution to achieve a certain look or effect.
