DB2 for Linux and UNIX

Before you do anything, check to ensure that the Development Center has already been installed. To launch the Development Center, log into the system as an instance user (such as db2inst1) and type db2dc.

Tip

The Development Center (db2dc) can also be run from a non-instance user that has sourced the DB2 instance environment script db2profile.

Here's an example:

  • $ source /home/db2inst1/sqllib/db2profile

  • $ /home/db2inst1/sqllib/db2profile

When installing DB2 for Linux and UNIX, the Development Center is not installed by default, because these platforms are typically used as servers. Be sure to select a custom install if you intend to use the Linux or UNIX system to run the Development Center. Select the Development Center (under Application Development Tools) option as illustrated in Figure D.5.

If you have already installed DB2 but did not select the Development Center, simply run the installation again using the same image. You do not have to uninstall. If you have applied a FixPak since the original installation, you will have to reapply it before attempting to start DB2 again.
