Summary

In this chapter, we looked at the big picture of network security and why it's necessary to have a comprehensive security policy to protect our networks from unauthorized access. Network security has generated jobs and security-related Web sites such as Net-Security (www.net-security.org), SecurityFocus (www.securityfocus.com), and Packetstorm Security (www.packetstormsecurity.org). Many aspects are important, including authentication, authorization, and confidentiality. In addition to the basic concepts, it's important to understand how each component of security fits into physical security, application security, and network security. It's also important that both management and users agree to work with you on enforcing security policies.
