Installing Access

You can install Microsoft Access 2002 on a computer running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Microsoft Access can be installed as a stand-alone product and is also available as part of the Microsoft Office XP suite (both of these flavors of Access come on a CD-ROM).

To install Access, follow these steps:

  1. Start your computer. Then insert the Microsoft Access or Micro soft XP Office CD in the CD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM should autostart, providing you with the opening installation screen.

  2. If the CD-ROM does not autostart, choose Start, Run. In the Run dialog box, type the letter of the CD-ROM drive, followed by setup (for example, e:\setup ). If necessary, use the Browse button to locate and select the CD-ROM drive and the setup.exe program.

  3. When the Setup Wizard prompts you, enter your name , organization, and CD key in the appropriate box.

  4. Choose Next to continue.

  5. The next Wizard screen provides instructions to complete the installation. After providing the appropriate information on each screen, select Next to advance from screen to screen.

After you complete the installation from the CD, icons for Access and any other Office applications you might have installed will be provided on the Windows Start menu. Lesson 2 in this book provides you with a step-by-step guide to starting Access 2002.
