Summary

This chapter's goals were as follows :

  • To discuss object creation

  • To compare the Object and ValueType classes

  • To examine the behavior of objects

  • To explore object visibility and availability

This is, by far, my favorite part of every chapter. As I lick my wounds and crack my knuckles, I get a chance to reflect. This chapter is no exception. You have come a long way.

I started this chapter by acknowledging the many references to this chapter that you found in previous chapters. I discussed the omnipresence of the System.Object class for greater appreciation of its usefulness . I then discussed the System.Object class and its derivative System.ValueType class. That set the stage for various discussions that examined the object types from various perspectives: coding, behavior, performance, and scope. I finished the chapter by revisiting the topic of object orientation and illustrating the relationship between object orientation and object availability.

The next chapter covers how to get data without the help of JCL.
