Chapter 11. Using File Permissions and Access Control Lists

 < Day Day Up >

Summary

This chapter introduced the most common Unix command-line file manipulation commands. Commands to copy, move, delete, search, and display files, as well as to archive and compress files were covered. You will most likely type at least one command from this chapter for every other command or application that you invoke from the Unix command line.

These commands also provide a good introduction to the Unix concept of small, single-function commands. What you've learned here about how a task can be accomplished the Unix way should serve you well in determining how to use other Unix commands that we don't have the time to cover in such depth.
