Using Paint

In addition to a word processing program, Windows XP includes a drawing program called Paint. You can use Paint to create simple drawings. You can draw lines and shapes, add text, and change the colors. If you make a mistake, you can use the Eraser to erase part of the drawing.

To start Paint, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and then click Paint (see Figure 21.5).

In Paint, you can do any of the following:

  • To draw a shape, click the tool in the toolbar. Then click and drag within the drawing area to draw the shape.

  • To add color, you can use the Fill With Color tool or the Airbrush tool.

  • To draw a text box, use the Text tool. Then type the text to include. You can change the font, font size, and font style (bold, italic, or underline).

  • If you make a mistake and want to get rid of something you have added, you can use the Eraser tool. Click the Eraser tool and determine the size you want the eraser to be. Then move the pointer to the drawing area, hold down the mouse button, and drag it across the part you want to erase.

  • If you want to save your drawing, use the File, Save As command. To open a document you have previously saved, use the File, Open command. For more information on saving and opening a file, see Chapter 2.

  • To change the colors of an object, use the color box (located at the bottom of the Paint window). Click the color you want to use for the lines used to draw the object. To change the color of the fill (for filled objects), right-click the color you want.
