Using Calculator

One of my favorite accessory programs is Calculator. It's easy to pop it open and perform calculations. You can add, subtract, multiply, divide, figure percentages, and more with this handy tool shown in Figure 21.6.

Figure 21.6. Use Calculator to perform basic calculations.

To use the calculator, type the first numeric entry. You can type values or operators on the numeric keypad (press Num Lock first) or on the number keys above the alphabet keys. You can also click the buttons on the calculator. Type the value, operator, value, operator, and so on until you complete your equation. You can use the following mathematical operators:

- Subtract

+ Add

* Multiply

/ Divide

To view the results of the equation, press the equals sign on the calculator. For instance, if you type 5 * 20 and then press the equals sign, you see the results of this equation100.

tip

The calculator also has memory and percentage features. If you routinely use a handheld calculator, you already know how to use these features. (If not, consult online help.) You can also use a more complex scientific calculator. Start Calculator and then click View, Scientific. You then can use any of these calculation features.
