base class A class that provides properties and methods as a foundation for a derived class. In objected-oriented programming, one class can be based on another through inheritance. Using this technique, the base class provides characteristics (such as properties and methods) to a derived class. The derived class can reuse, modify, or add to the members of the base class.

Bezier A curve specified by four points. Two points specify the ends of the curve, and the other two points influence the shape of the curve between the end points.

Boolean A data type that can represent a value of either true or false.

bootstrapper In deployment, an application that installs Microsoft Windows Installer on machines that do not currently have it installed.

boundary condition In testing, test conditions at the limit of normal operation and just over or under those limits.

boxing The act of wrapping a Value type, such as an Integer, inside an object so that it can be treated like a Reference type.

Break mode In debugging, a state of suspended execution wherein the application can be executed in a line-by-line manner, and individual program variables can be examined.

breakpoint In debugging, a predetermined point where execution of an application will halt and enter Break mode.
